2013 Year in Review
I do this every year…
1: What did you do in 2013 that you’d never done before?
established myself as a professional social worker, entered into an appropriate, loving and adult relationship, took a road trip from Boston to Florida and back again…
2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I have no idea.
3: Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister-in-law gave birth to my new niece Lucia in October :)
4: Did anyone close to you die?
I hope not because I don’t recall at this time.
5: What countries did you visit?
No other countries besides the US - but that will change when I go to England this summer :)
6: What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Financial security and a doggie!
7: What dates from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
1/1/13, 2/14/13, 12/25/13… some for good and some for bad reasons
8: What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting through my first year of grad school!
9: What was your biggest failure?
I’ve been pretty badass this year so there really wasn’t any huge failure.
10: Did you suffer illness or injury?
Still recovering from ankle injury in late 2012. Still in pain from various physical ailments that will probably plague me for the rest of my life.
11: What was the best thing you bought?
new wallet that I can actually close and protect my cards and monies
12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My significant other Patrick has behaved impeccably when dealing with my chaos.
13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?
Certain people that do not know how to take no for an answer.
14: Where did most of your money go?
Food and school expenses.
15: What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Road trip to Florida, starting my new field placement, doing all my advocacy stuff at the statehouse
16: What song will always remind you of 2013?
It’s awful, but Get Lucky by Daft Punk because I have been feeling really lucky all year and it gets stuck in my head really quickly.
17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? (c) richer or poorer?
much happier, probably a little fatter?, much poorer (boo student loans boo)
18: What do you wish you’d done more of?
Getting to know people at school.
19: What do you wish you’d done less of?
As always - worrying about grades and assignments.
20: How did you spend Christmas?
Unfortunately, in the hospital. My stepdad was sick and we brought presents and some holiday food to his hospital room to try to be a little festive. After leaving, my mom, little brother and I had chinese food - going back to our Jew roots I suppose.
21: Did you fall in love in 2013?
Yes :) Didn’t really expect it to happen, but suddenly it was like “I love you” and he was like “I love you too” and at this moment I’m getting ready to curl up next to him and fall asleep.
22: What was your favourite TV program?
Orange is the New Black was the best *new* program but the end of Breaking Bad is something I will never forget.
23: Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
24: What was the best book you read?
Unfortunately I don’t get to read a lot of books for pleasure because grad school is so reading intensive. However, I read In One Person by John Irving last summer and found it unexpectedly moving.
25: What was your greatest musical discovery?
Silly British parody songs.
26: What did you want and get?
A kickass internship.
27: What did you want and not get?
28: What was your favourite film of this year?
Tough one. I’m a victim of the recency effect and would have to say Dallas Buyers Club because it’s the last film that really made an impression on me.
29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having someone to share my life with.
30: How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Can I get away with it at work? Yes, awesome!

Patrick, DBT skills, deep breathing…
32: Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Tom Hiddleston, Aaron Paul, Robyn Lawley
33: What political issue stirred you the most?
workers’ rights - raising the minimum wage, mandated earned sick time, unemployment benefits etc.
34: Who did you miss?
35: Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
Take a risk.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I only pray you’ll never leave me behind
Because good music can be so hard to find
I take your hand and hold it closer to mine
Thought love was dead, but now you’re changing my mind
